New gum surgery aims to save healing tissue and improve outcomes

NCT ID NCT05533528

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study compares a new surgical technique for treating advanced gum disease to the standard approach. The new method uses a single small cut to preserve blood supply and keep granulation tissue—which helps healing—in place. About 50 adults with deep gum pockets that didn't fully respond to non-surgical treatment will take part. Researchers will measure gum attachment, pocket depth, and healing over 12 months.
