New gum surgery technique aims to save natural healing tissue

NCT ID NCT05533528

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to surgically treat gum disease. Instead of removing the granulation tissue (the body's natural healing tissue) during surgery, the new method preserves it to help the gums heal better. The study will compare this new approach to the standard surgery in 25 adults with advanced gum disease and deep pockets that did not fully heal after non-surgical treatment. Participants will be followed for 12 months to see if the new method improves gum attachment and reduces pocket depth.
