Mirror, mirror on the bed: could it ease labor pain?

NCT ID NCT07659249

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether placing a mirror at the foot of the delivery bed helps first-time mothers during the pushing stage of labor. Researchers want to see if seeing the baby's progress reduces pain, increases feelings of support and control, and shortens the pushing phase. Eighty women will be randomly assigned to either use the mirror or receive standard care.

Active substance
perineal mirror (device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this simple mirror could help women feel more in control and supported during childbirth, and may shorten the pushing phase.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants. The mirror may not make a meaningful difference, and results may not apply to all births.
