Can a traditional cloth ease labor pain and speed up birth?

NCT ID NCT07759479

First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial asks whether the Rebozo technique—a traditional method using a woven cloth to gently move the pelvis—can reduce pain and shorten labor in first-time mothers. Around 120 women in active labor will be randomly assigned to receive either the Rebozo technique plus standard care or standard care alone. Researchers will measure pain levels and how long labor lasts from 6 cm dilation to birth.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Rebozo technique, a traditional woven cloth used for rhythmic pelvic mobilization during labor
What this could lead to
If effective, this low-cost, drug-free method could offer a simple way to ease labor pain and shorten delivery for first-time mothers.
What could go wrong
The trial is relatively small and early, and results may not apply to all births. The technique's benefits are uncertain and may vary by individual.
