Electric spark cleaning could save failing dental implants
NCT ID NCT07644975
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a new electrolytic cleaning method can improve treatment for peri-implantitis, a gum infection around dental implants. About 80 adults will receive either standard surgical cleaning or standard cleaning plus an electric spark treatment. Researchers will measure gum pocket depth and other signs of infection over 24 months to see which approach works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Electrolytic surface decontamination (GalvoSurge system)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a more effective way to treat peri-implantitis, potentially saving dental implants that might otherwise fail.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (80 people) that hasn't started yet. The electrolytic method may not prove better than standard cleaning, and long-term benefits are uncertain.
