Gum graft boosts implant infection repair?
NCT ID NCT04323540
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested two surgical treatments for peri-implantitis, a serious gum infection around dental implants. Both methods used bone grafting, but one group also received a soft tissue graft from the palate. The trial involved 32 adults and measured gum health, bone loss, and patient satisfaction. Results will help determine if adding the soft tissue graft improves outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgical procedure (bone graft with or without soft tissue graft)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more effective surgical approach for treating peri-implantitis, potentially improving implant survival and gum health.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The added surgery for the soft tissue graft also carries risks like pain, swelling, or graft failure.
