Could a simple hip injection prevent Post-Surgery confusion in seniors?
NCT ID NCT07449468
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding a nerve block (PENG block) to standard spinal anesthesia can reduce confusion after hip replacement in people aged 75 and older. About 180 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block or a placebo injection. The main goal is to see if the block lowers the rate of delirium within three days after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ropivacaine
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a simple way to lower the risk of confusion after hip surgery in older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial. The nerve block may not reduce delirium, and there are always risks with any injection near nerves.
