Magnetic pulses tested as a new way to heal painful anal fissures
NCT ID NCT07729709
First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether adding pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy to standard lidocaine cream can improve healing of chronic anal fissures. About 100 adults aged 30–60 with anal fissure symptoms will receive either PEMF plus lidocaine or lidocaine alone for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in fissure severity and quality of life to see if the magnetic pulses offer an extra benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation (PEMF) plus lidocaine cream
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-surgical, drug-free option to help heal chronic anal fissures and improve quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial, and the effect of PEMF on fissure healing is still uncertain. The treatment requires multiple clinic visits and may not work for everyone.
