ERs test hiring recovered addicts to save lives

NCT ID NCT07030192

Summary

This study is testing if hiring peer support workers—people with personal experience using drugs—in a busy emergency room can help patients who use substances feel safer and more comfortable. The goal is to see if this support encourages patients to stay and complete their medical care instead of leaving early, which carries a high risk of death. Researchers will measure how well the program works and gather feedback from patients and staff to see if it should be expanded.
