Swimming with a mentor: could eight sessions fuel young Athletes' drive?
NCT ID NCT07769541
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Sep 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This pilot study looks at whether an eight-session peer-mentoring program can change motivation in youth swimmers. About 29 competitive swimmers aged 11-14 took part in weekly group sessions with an experienced swimmer, covering topics like goal setting and reflecting on competition experiences. Their motivation was measured before and after the program using a standard sports motivation questionnaire. The study aims to see if this type of mentoring can positively influence different types of motivation in young athletes.

- What this could lead to
- If effective, this peer-mentoring approach could offer a simple, low-cost way to strengthen young athletes' motivation and enjoyment in sports.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study without a control group, so any changes in motivation might be due to other factors. Results may not apply beyond this specific group of swimmers.
