NCT ID NCT07591064
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-day nutrition education program, called Positive Deviance/Hearth (PDH), can help children aged 6-59 months recover from moderate acute malnutrition. Caregivers learn to prepare nutrient-dense meals using local ingredients, with follow-up support. The trial will compare recovery rates and relapse in 400 children receiving PDH versus standard care in Bangladesh.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Positive Deviance/Hearth (PDH) behavioral nutrition program
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a low-cost, sustainable way to treat malnutrition in children using local foods, reducing reliance on specialized supplements.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (400 children) in one region of Bangladesh, so results may not apply elsewhere. The program depends on caregiver participation and local food availability, which could limit effectiveness.
