Could a tiny electrical device ease cancer pain at home?
NCT ID NCT07308951
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a device that sends mild electrical pulses to specific points on the skin (acupoints) can help people with long-term cancer pain feel better and improve their quality of life. The device is patient-controlled, meaning users can decide when to use it. Researchers will track pain levels, medication use, mood, and bowel function in 290 adults with cancer. The goal is to see if this approach offers a safe, home-based option for managing chronic cancer pain.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give cancer patients a safe, drug-free way to manage pain at home and improve their daily life.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with no comparison group, so results may not prove the device works better than a placebo. Pain relief may vary from person to person.
