NCT ID NCT06433414
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a mobile app called PAUSE that helps people with chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease know which medications to pause when they get sick. About 320 patients from 16 pharmacies in Alberta will use the app or receive standard guidance. The goal is to see if the app is usable and helps prevent serious side effects like low blood sugar or kidney injury.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PAUSE App (mobile application for sick day medication guidance)
What this could lead to
If successful, this app could help patients avoid dangerous medication side effects like low blood sugar or kidney injury during illnesses like the flu.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The app may not improve outcomes or be adopted widely.
