Robots lend a hand: new device aims to restore arm movement after stroke

NCT ID NCT07218276

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether simple, passive robotic devices can help people who have had a stroke regain arm and hand movement. Four participants will use the devices during reaching exercises, sometimes with electrical stimulation to activate muscles. The goal is to see if this approach is practical and helpful for rehabilitation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

passive robotic devices (SepaRRo and NeuRRoFES) with neuromuscular stimulation

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new way to help stroke survivors improve arm function using simple, passive devices.

What could go wrong

This is a very early feasibility study with only 4 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The devices may not provide meaningful improvement over standard therapy.
