No drain, Same-Day discharge? new study tests safer parotid surgery
NCT ID NCT07620184
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether it is safe to remove a tumor from the parotid gland (a saliva gland near the ear) without using a surgical drain. Normally, a drain is placed to remove extra fluid, which often requires an overnight hospital stay. The researchers want to see if skipping the drain leads to similar complication rates and allows more people to go home the same day. About 600 adults having this surgery will be randomly assigned to get a drain or not, and their recovery will be tracked for six months.
