Scientists listen to Parkinson's brain during surgery to unlock movement secrets

NCT ID NCT05166655

Summary

This study aims to understand why certain cues, like sounds or visual prompts, can help people with Parkinson's disease move more easily. Researchers will record brain activity from 40 patients during their scheduled deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery while they perform simple movement tasks with different cues. The goal is to identify brain patterns that could lead to better future treatments for symptoms like freezing of gait that don't respond well to current therapies.
