First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a parent's presence during a child's dental treatment affects the child's anxiety and behavior. 72 healthy children aged 4-7 with no prior dental experience were randomly placed into three groups: parent absent, parent behind a barrier, or parent present. Researchers measured anxiety using questionnaires, heart rate, and oxygen levels, and recorded behavior on video. The goal was to find the best approach to help children feel calm and cooperative at the dentist.
