Paramedics race against time to stop deadly sepsis before hospital arrival

NCT ID NCT03068741

Summary

This study tests whether having paramedics start sepsis treatment immediately during ambulance transport saves more lives than waiting until patients reach the hospital emergency room. Paramedics will give antibiotics and intravenous fluids to 2,040 adults with suspected severe sepsis during transport. Researchers will compare survival rates between those who receive this early treatment and those who get standard hospital care.
