Electric field therapy combined with chemo shows promise for tough pancreatic cancer

NCT ID NCT06390059

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested a wearable device that delivers low-intensity electric fields (TTFields) together with immunotherapy (atezolizumab) and two chemotherapy drugs (gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel) in 84 people with metastatic pancreatic cancer who had not received prior treatment. The goal was to see if the combination is safe and can control the disease. Participants wore the device at home for at least 18 hours a day. The study is now complete, and results will show how well the treatment worked at stopping tumor growth and improving survival.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) device plus atezolizumab, gemcitabine, and nab-paclitaxel

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could offer a new first-line treatment option to help control metastatic pancreatic cancer and potentially extend survival.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-arm pilot study without a comparison group, so results may not be definitive. The treatment involves multiple drugs and a wearable device, which may cause side effects or be difficult to tolerate.
