Summary

This study is testing whether adding specialized palliative care consultations in intensive care units (ICUs) can reduce suffering for seriously ill patients. It will involve over 2,000 patients across multiple hospitals, comparing outcomes when palliative care experts are involved versus standard ICU care alone. The research will measure patient comfort, length of hospital stays, costs, and how patients and families experience care.
