First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tested whether a custom-made acrylic palatal stent (like a mouth guard) can reduce pain and bleeding after gum graft surgery. Forty-four adults who needed a gum graft from the roof of their mouth were randomly assigned to use the stent or not. The stent group reported less pain and bleeding during healing.
