New nerve block could cut opioid use for kidney donors

NCT ID NCT07396753

First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a special nerve block, called a transversalis fascia plane block, can help control pain and reduce the need for strong painkillers (opioids) after kidney donation surgery. About 50 living kidney donors will take part. Half will get the nerve block plus standard anesthesia, and the other half will get standard anesthesia alone. The goal is to see if the nerve block leads to less opioid use and fewer side effects like nausea and drowsiness.
