New pain block could cut morphine use in liver transplant patients

NCT ID NCT07233083

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a specific nerve block (external oblique intercostal plane block) can better control pain after liver transplant surgery. Sixty adults getting a liver transplant will be split into two groups: one gets the nerve block plus standard care, the other gets standard care alone. The main goal is to see if the nerve block reduces the amount of morphine needed in the first 24 hours after surgery.
