New study tests better pain relief after belly surgery

NCT ID NCT07593300

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial will test two different nerve blocks (RISS and ESPB) to see which one controls pain better after laparoscopic abdominal surgery. 70 adults having procedures like gallbladder removal or hernia repair will be randomly assigned to receive one of the blocks. Researchers will measure pain levels and how much extra pain medicine is needed over 24 hours.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
nerve block (RISS or ESPB)
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could mean less pain and less need for strong painkillers after laparoscopic surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (70 people) comparing two procedures. Results may not apply to everyone, and there are always risks like bruising or allergic reaction to the numbing medicine.
