Hip surgery pain relief showdown: nerve block vs spinal injection

NCT ID NCT06818396

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two methods for controlling pain after hip surgery: a nerve block (fascia iliaca compartment block) and a spinal injection of nalbuphine. 120 adults having hip surgery under spinal anesthesia will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The main goal is to see which approach delays the need for additional pain medication longer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
nalbuphine
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show which method provides longer pain relief after hip surgery, helping doctors choose the best option for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 120 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Both methods are already used, so no major breakthrough is expected.
