New study aims to ease pain after gallbladder removal
NCT ID NCT07582029
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two common pain relief techniques after laparoscopic gallbladder removal: local anesthetic injected into the surgical cuts versus an ultrasound-guided nerve block near the belly button. The goal is to see which method better reduces pain and the need for opioid painkillers. Sixty adults undergoing planned gallbladder surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Rectus sheath block (nerve block) and local anesthetic infiltration
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show which pain relief method works better after gallbladder surgery, potentially reducing opioid use and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The trial has not yet started recruiting.
