New approach eases Post-Surgery pain when standard method fails

NCT ID NCT00620490

Summary

This study tested an alternative pain control method for patients who cannot receive the standard epidural pain relief after chest surgery. Researchers compared a local anesthetic delivered through a small catheter placed near the spine against a placebo, with both groups also having access to morphine. The goal was to see if this method reduced pain, lowered total morphine use, and caused fewer side effects like nausea and drowsiness.
