New nerve block cocktail keeps breast surgery patients Pain-Free longer

NCT ID NCT05385523

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether adding dexmedetomidine or dexamethasone to a standard numbing medicine (bupivacaine) in a nerve block could improve pain control after breast removal surgery. 70 adult women undergoing modified radical mastectomy received one of three mixtures. The goal was to see how long pain relief lasted and how much extra morphine was needed. Results showed that both added medications extended pain-free time and reduced morphine use compared to bupivacaine alone.
