New combo may cut opioids and confusion after brain surgery
NCT ID NCT07441421
First seen Mar 26, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests two methods—scalp nerve blocks and a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine—to see if they can reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers and prevent confusion after brain tumor surgery. About 2000 adults having elective brain surgery will be randomly assigned to receive one or both treatments, or placebos. The main goal is to measure how much opioid pain medication is used in the first 48 hours after surgery.
