New pain block could slash opioid use after back surgery

Summary
This study tests whether a specific nerve block (erector spinae plane block) can reduce the need for opioid painkillers after minimally invasive lumbar spine surgery. About 125 adults undergoing certain types of back surgery will receive either the nerve block or a placebo. The goal is to lower opioid use and the risk of addiction while still managing pain effectively.
