Can a common painkiller prevent Post-Surgery confusion in the elderly?
NCT ID NCT07235995
Summary
This study aims to see if using a common intravenous pain medication (acetaminophen) is better than a stronger opioid (sufentanil) at preventing confusion and delirium in older patients after non-heart surgery. It will involve over 1,000 patients aged 60+ in intensive care units across China. Researchers will compare how often confusion occurs in the first five days after surgery between the two pain management approaches.
