New study aims to cut opioid use after knee surgery

NCT ID NCT03747146

First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study compares two pain-relief methods for total knee replacement: a single injection versus a continuous catheter that delivers numbing medicine. About 94 adults having knee surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. The goal is to see which approach reduces the need for opioid painkillers in the first two days after surgery.
