New study tests which nerve block eases pain after lung surgery best
NCT ID NCT07553195
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of nerve blocks given before lung surgery to see which one controls pain better. Sixty adults having video-assisted lung surgery will receive either a serratus posterior superior intercostal plane block or a deep serratus anterior plane block. The main goal is to measure pain levels in the first 24 hours after surgery, along with how much pain medicine they need and any side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- bupivacaine hydrochloride
- What this could lead to
- If one block works better, it could mean less pain and less need for strong painkillers after lung surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 people. The results may not apply to everyone, and both blocks carry small risks like bleeding or infection.
