Which pain block works best for keyhole lung surgery?

NCT ID NCT07524673

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks—rhomboid intercostal and serratus posterior superior—to see which one controls pain better after video-assisted lung surgery. Forty adults having elective wedge resection or biopsy will receive one of the blocks with bupivacaine. Their pain will be measured using a 0–10 scale to find the most effective technique.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bupivacaine

What this could lead to

If one block proves better, it could become the standard for easing pain after keyhole lung surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The blocks may not differ much in pain relief.
