New pain block study aims to cut opioid use after back surgery

Summary

This study tests two different ultrasound-guided nerve blocks given before lumbar microdiscectomy surgery to see which provides better pain control. 80 adults aged 18-65 will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two blocks. The main goal is to measure how much opioid pain medication they need in the 48 hours after surgery, with a focus on reducing side effects and improving recovery.
