Eye test could help detect pain in confused ICU patients
NCT ID NCT05811208
First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a device that measures pupil reactions (automated pupillometry) can help assess pain in intensive care patients who have delirium after surgery. Delirium makes it hard for patients to communicate pain. The study involved 49 patients and compared pupil measurements to standard pain scales. The goal was to find a better way to detect pain in these vulnerable patients.
