Pacemaker showdown: new method may boost heart health in block patients
NCT ID NCT07276490
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two ways to place a pacemaker in people with heart block (a condition where the heart's electrical signals slow or stop). One method uses standard right ventricular pacing, the other uses conduction system pacing (targeting the heart's natural electrical pathways). Researchers will measure blood pressure, heart function, and quality of life over 12 months in 124 participants from two hospitals in Estonia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Pacemaker implantation (right ventricular pacing vs. conduction system pacing)
What this could lead to
If conduction system pacing works better, it could improve heart function and quality of life for people with heart block who need a pacemaker.
What could go wrong
This is a moderate-sized trial (124 people) comparing two established techniques, so the differences may be small. Results may not apply to people with other heart conditions.
