Love hormone may curb opioid addiction risk in seniors
NCT ID NCT05761860
First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026
Summary
This early-phase study tests whether giving oxytocin (a natural hormone) along with the opioid oxycodone can lower the drug's abuse potential while improving pain relief. Researchers will study 45 older adults who have used opioids before but do not have chronic pain. Over six lab sessions, participants will receive different combinations of oxytocin and oxycodone to measure effects on pain, feelings, and decision-making.
