Urine oxygen test may spot kidney danger in ICU shock patients

NCT ID NCT06320509

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether continuously measuring oxygen levels in urine can help predict when a patient in shock will develop acute kidney injury or recover from it. Researchers will monitor 55 intensive care unit patients with and without shock. The goal is to see if urine oxygen levels change before standard kidney tests show a problem.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple, continuous way to detect kidney injury earlier in shock patients, potentially improving outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study (55 people) that only measures a biomarker. It cannot prove that using this measurement improves patient outcomes.
