Could a monthly ring replace the pill? new study tests Hormone-Free contraceptive

NCT ID NCT06127199

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing Ovaprene, a non-hormonal vaginal ring worn for a month at a time to prevent pregnancy. About 656 women aged 18–40 will use the ring for up to 13 menstrual cycles. Researchers will track how many become pregnant and how safe and acceptable the ring is.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Ovaprene non-hormonal intravaginal ring
What this could lead to
If successful, Ovaprene could offer a hormone-free, user-controlled contraceptive option that is placed monthly.
What could go wrong
This is a single-arm, open-label study without a comparison group, so effectiveness may be overestimated. The ring may not prevent pregnancy as well as hormonal methods.
