Can touch and trance together tame Cancer's chronic pain?
NCT ID NCT07860476
First seen Oct 06, 2026 · Last updated Oct 09, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
Researchers are testing whether combining osteopathy, a hands-on physical therapy, with therapeutic hypnosis eases chronic pain and emotional distress in cancer patients better than osteopathy alone. The trial enrolls 80 adults with cancer who have had pain for at least three months and show moderate emotional distress. Participants receive either osteopathy by itself or a combined program where practitioners trained in both methods deliver physical treatment and hypnosis together. The team measures changes in pain, quality of life, and psychological distress over six weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a combined program of osteopathy and therapeutic hypnosis
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could give cancer patients a drug-free way to manage chronic pain that carries a strong emotional charge, using touch and focused relaxation together.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small, with 80 participants, and tests a hands-on therapy that is hard to standardize. Results may not hold for all cancer patients or all types of pain, and any benefit could fade after treatment ends.
