NCT ID NCT04704648

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether it's practical to surgically remove a type of eye surface tumor (OSSN) in people living with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. About 84 participants will have the tumor cut out and be followed for a year to see if the procedure is safe and if patients return for check-ups. The goal is to gather information to plan larger future studies, not to prove the surgery cures or controls the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

What this could lead to

If successful, this could pave the way for larger studies to improve treatment of eye surface tumors in people with HIV in Africa.

What could go wrong

This is a small feasibility study, not designed to prove the surgery works. It may not show clear benefits or be generalizable to all patients.
