Yoga or face exercises? new study tests two simple therapies for kids with down syndrome
NCT ID NCT06352151
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This completed study looked at whether orofacial therapy (exercises for the mouth and face) or therapeutic yoga could improve swallowing, sleep habits, and quality of life in 30 children with Down syndrome aged 5 to 12. All children continued their usual physical therapy, with some adding orofacial exercises and others adding yoga. The goal was to see which approach might help with common issues like trouble eating and poor sleep.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
orofacial therapy and therapeutic yoga
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward simple, non-drug therapies to help children with Down syndrome eat better, sleep more soundly, and enjoy a higher quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 30 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapies are supportive and not expected to change the underlying condition.
