First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study aims to better distinguish between two conditions that cause sudden vision loss: giant cell arteritis (GCA) and NAION. Researchers will use advanced PET/MRI and OCT scans to look for signs of inflammation in the eye's blood vessels and subtle retinal changes. By enrolling 122 adults aged 50 and older, the goal is to improve diagnosis so that GCA patients get life-saving anti-inflammatory treatment quickly, while NAION patients avoid unnecessary and risky medications.
