Ketone drink tested for failing hearts in diabetes patients

NCT ID NCT06108076

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This small early-phase study is testing whether a drink containing ketone esters can improve how the heart works in people who have both type 2 diabetes and heart failure with reduced pumping ability. Ten adults will take the drink for seven days, and researchers will use heart scans and walking tests to measure any changes. The goal is to learn if ketones, which the heart can use for fuel without needing insulin, might offer a new way to support heart function.
