Could a ketone drink boost heart power in diabetes patients?

NCT ID NCT06108076

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This small early study is testing whether drinking a ketone ester supplement for 7 days can improve how well the heart pumps blood in people who have both type 2 diabetes and heart failure with reduced pumping strength. Ten adults aged 18–80 with stable heart medications will take the supplement and have their heart function measured by MRI and a 6-minute walk test. The goal is to see if ketones, which the heart can use for energy without needing insulin, can safely boost heart efficiency.
