Can a daily bacterial pill shield babies from wheezing and asthma?

NCT ID NCT02148796

Summary

This study tested whether giving a daily oral bacterial extract (Broncho-Vaxom®) to infants at high risk for asthma could prevent wheezing illnesses. Over 800 infants aged 6-18 months took the extract or a placebo for 10 days each month for two years, followed by three years of observation. The main goal was to see if the treatment could delay or prevent the first serious wheezing episode and reduce the development of asthma.
