New brain surgery method could ease tremors without awake testing

NCT ID NCT03760406

First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to target brain areas for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in 22 people with severe essential tremor. The new method uses a computer model to guide surgery while the patient is asleep, instead of the usual awake surgery. The goal was to see if it works as well as the standard approach to reduce hand tremors.
