Study challenges routine blood pressure pills for the frail elderly

NCT ID NCT05047731

Summary

This study tested whether carefully reducing or stopping blood pressure medication is safe and beneficial for frail older adults living in nursing homes who already have low blood pressure. Over 500 residents were randomly assigned to either have their medications reduced or to continue with their usual care. The goal was to see if avoiding very low blood pressure could improve health outcomes like survival and reduce hospital visits.
