Heart stent study tests smarter imaging to save lives

NCT ID NCT04111770

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether using a special ultrasound camera inside the heart's main artery (IVUS) during stenting leads to better results than standard X-ray guidance. About 800 patients with narrowed left main coronary arteries were randomly assigned to one of the two methods and followed for up to 2 years. The goal was to see if IVUS reduces death, stroke, heart attack, or the need for repeat procedures.
